Class 6

Tuesday, March 31st

In this final session Hillary and her father explored Paul's teachings on the fruits of the Spirit. The discussion centered on understanding why Jesus's death on the cross was a gift of grace rather than a necessary atonement for sin, using Bishop Mark Dyer's insight about Jesus weeping over death itself rather than just Lazarus's death. The session examined each of the fruits of the Spirit through biblical examples, including patience (Jesus's tolerance with disciples), kindness (healing the leper), goodness (healing the bleeding woman), faithfulness (Jesus in Gethsemane), gentleness (restoring Peter), and self-control, all contrasted with the temptation story in the desert where Jesus resisted the devil's temptations using Scripture. The study concluded with Galatians 6, emphasizing the importance of using spiritual practices for the right intentions and warning against pride, ending with Paul's reflection on carrying the marks of Christ.
