Architecting the Soul

Crafting Your Spiritual Syllabus

COURSE DESCRIPTION

In the stillness following the Epiphany, we're called not just to a new year, but to a deeper walk with the Divine. This workshop at The Hive is a sacred invitation to move beyond "accidental" faith and into an intentional, self-guided pilgrimage of the heart. Using a personal curriculum framework, we'll design a Spiritual Semester—a structured roadmap for acquiring the "knowledge of the Holy" and practicing the disciplines of the Spirit.

True transformation requires more than scattered sampling of information; it requires a curated path. During our 90 minutes together, you'll become the steward of your own growth, filtering out the noise of the world to listen for the "still, small voice" that directs your study. We'll treat our time as a sacred resource, ensuring your curriculum moves from the Inward (The Root of prayer and scripture), to the Outward (The Bloom of service and fruitfulness), and finally to the Together (The Harvest of communal fellowship).

Note: To get the most out of this course, please come with a few ideas of what you would like to study. If you have no idea where to start, you may want to first revisit our “Birds of the Air 2.0" class which will help you discern what God may be calling you to at this time.

Topics we'll dive into:

  • Discern Your Topic: through reflection, you'll select 1–2 specific areas of focus (e.g.,"The Life of the Desert Fathers," "Practicing the Presence of God," or "Biblical Justice") to ensure depth over breadth.

  • Curate Your Sacred Resources: we'll help you select 3–5 core "inputs"—perhaps a specific book of the Bible, a classic work of theology (like Julian of Norwich or Howard Thurman), or a series of liturgical teachings—to serve as your primary guides.

  • Define Your "Offering" (Output): to anchor your learning in faith-in-action, you'll define one tangible project for the season’s end, such as hosting a hospitality dinner, writing a personal psalter, or completing a dedicated service project.

  • The 3-Phase Liturgy of Learning: you'll map your 12-week season through the phases of The Root (Solo study/meditation), The Bloom (Action and service), and The Harvest (Your offering to the world).
